Make a shopping list – before you go out shopping, check what you have in the fridge, freezer and store cupboard. You’ll be amazed at the difference this can make.
Get to know your fridge and freezer – Make it habit to check what you have in the fridge and freezer. Look at the dates and prioritise the items which are which are coming up to thier ‘Use by’ date.
Storecupboard essentials – Keep your store cupboard topped up with some essentials that can help you make quick and easy meals. Such essentials as pasta, rice, tinned tomatoes, beans and pulses can be used in a variety of ways.
Get to know your portions – Large amounts of carbohydrates such as bread, pasta, potatoes and rice are regularly thrown away – normally because we have cooked too much. Get to know your portions. Did you know that a mug full of uncooked rice will serve 4 adults once its been cooked. Why not experiment at home to find out your measures.
Leftovers – We all end up with some leftovers occasionally. Knowing what to do, can help you save time and money. Leftover dinner – bag it up and pop it into the freezer for a quick home made ready meal. Don’t forget to date and label. Crusts and stale bread can be blitzed in the food processor to make breadcrumbs which can then be popped into the freezer.
